Armando Montelongo, former star of A&E's "Flip This House" is suing his brother, David, and his brother's wife, Melinda, for trademark infringement, damage to business reputation, unfair competition and unjust enrichment, claiming that David & Melinda are operating a real estate training program that is much too similar to his own.
Armando and David had been partners on the hit A&E show, but parted company in a nasty televised exchange in front of 1.2 million viewers that resulted in David walking off the show.
The federal lawsuit was filed in San Antonio, Texas on July 6, 2012.
Since leaving the TV show, Armando has gone on to offer a real estate training course, complete with what he deems to be "coaching" and a "bus tour". the entire cost for Montelongo's "help" can run into the tens of thousands of dollars - the seminar, itself, costs $1500, while the bus tour with coaching runs a whopping $25,000. Considering the most effective real estate investing course available only costs less than $50 and includes free, lifetime coaching (it is run as a non-profit), it would seem Montelongo's offering is a bit pricey.
Armando says he and his brother are on "good terms", but David says they have not spoken since he left the show.
